Dreams Are Overrated
An exploration of why childhood dreams may not be the path to fulfillment, and where else look.
Young minds look outward. The world is a place of play, inspiration, and limitless possibilities. As society moulds the mind, this perspective is warped, and the glass ceiling closes in. Awareness of this glass ceiling is an integral part of growing up, something you may have experienced. To combat this, we refer back to when this ceiling did not exist. Thus, dreams that our younger "'self'" wanted, are pursued. Further down the line, one will hopefully realise that all this does is shift the glass ceiling and not break it. Hopefully I present some ideas that will help you realise this.
Dreams from an authentic place allow one to pursue what they were put on this earth for. Not because there is any meaning in this pursuit, but because they are able to derive the experience that their life was meant for. Like a river flows as it should, authentic pursuit is life experienced as it should. In modern times, society is largely globalised. Endless sources of information, and perspective bombard us every day. All of it is truly noise. Some noise resonates closer to the "'frequency'" that is your life, but nothing externally can take you to an authentic place. Thus, we must turn in.
The idea to turn back to our dreams of young is a step in the right direction. A less corrupted mind provides a clearer picture of what is true to self, but corruption is still prevalent. For me, a toxic parental relationship influences my dreams to be self-sacrificing for others"' peace. You can climb a mountain and get ¾ of the way up only to realise you must descend take different path top (Naval). Dreams young mind are closer what you'"re searching for, but they fall short. To truly get to where you want to be, an authentic place must be reached internally.
Reaching an authentic place is a deep topic, and long process. The process is self-rewarding. As the walls of inauthenticity crumble away a young, sprightful feeling called curiosity resurrects, silent since childhood. Curiosity is interest in alignment with you right now. As authenticity is converged upon, curiosity resonates with your being and allows you to explore what you have been searching for. It won"'t be what you expected, but will grateful."
Listening to curiosity and logically exploring it is the path towards what you want out of dreams. It is a beautiful approach to surrendering to life, the path to peace. Curiosity is what you are looking for, find it within.
TLDR - Dreams of a young mind are not worth pursuing. Instead, one must look within, search for authenticity, and listen to their curiosity. Curiosity + Logic = Surrender to life, transcending societal expectations, and leading to peace.
Thanks to Anna Maria Luisa"'s, Drunk on Dreams video that inspired this essay, beautiful with an interesting, somewhat contrarian perspective."
