A Game of Chance

There are so many people locking in and negating life’s greatest feature.

A lot of us strive for goals in a robotic fashion, achieve inputs and receive outcomes. This is simple to understand and logically results in the outcome we want.

The inputs we decide are what we see as the quickest actions to receive the desired outcome. We stick to them and prevent any variation in them as logically this would impede progress.

But variation is a feature of life, not a bug.

Variation is what puts you in rooms with your potential life partner, or leads you to pick up your favourite hobby, or provides a pivotal developmental experience. These things can have a profound impact on your life experience, one you would be unlikely to regret.

But if you close your mind and stick to a predefined approach, then you allow these life changing opportunities to pass by. You may fear that welcoming variation into your life could result in losing sight of what you ‘need’ to do.

It’s important to remember two truths of the human experience; no matter what you acquire or do it will never result in permanent happiness, and pursuing anything that matters to you will provide a source of meaning.

Figuring out what matters is a trial and error process. The variation of life provides opportunities to trial things, making it a path to explore meaning.

Finding meaning is a modern struggle, but life by nature is providing a solution.

If you abandoned a quest for fame for a quiet house in the Danish countryside, cultivating a beautiful family and lifestyle because variation in life led you there, I’m sure you would be just as happy if not happier than you’d be on your quest to stardom.
